Middle Helladic "White Style" pithos (c. 1700 BC) from Kolona with a ship representation from the Helladic Era. Circa 1700 BCE.
This exceptional Middle Helladic "White Style" pithos (c. 1700 BC) from Kolona is one of the most significant finds in Aeginetan archaeology. It features a rare and detailed iconographic depiction of a ship, providing invaluable evidence of the island's early maritime prowess. The vessel is decorated with dark matt paint on a light slip, combining traditional geometric motifs—such as chevrons and concentric circles—with a narrative scene that underscores Aegina's role as a preeminent naval and mercantile hub in the prehistoric Aegean.
Exhibited at the Aegina Archaeological Museum, Greece.
