Amphora of the Geometric period with battle scene. 8th century BCE.

Amphora of the Geometric period with a depiction of a battle scene. The main figure, standing in front of a chariot, is holding a large figure-eight shield in his right hand and a sword in his left, which he brandishes over an unarmed man. On the ground lie the fallen dead, spears flying over the heads of the warriors, chariots with standing, armed charioteers, and armed horsemen with round shields, ready to attack. With the depiction of a grazing sheep, the artist indicates the landscape of the battle, possibly a field in the countryside. (8th cent. BC)
