The site of Ambacus represents a significant example of Hellenistic military architecture. These ruins, identified by Leake and locals today as Fidokastro, originally controlled the entrance to the Arachthos River. The surviving limestone blocks demonstrate the isodomic masonry common to the fortifications of the Epirus region.

Η θέση του Αμβράκου αποτελεί σημαντικό δείγμα ελληνιστικής στρατιωτικής αρχιτεκτονικής. Τα ερείπια αυτά, τα οποία ο Leake και οι ντόπιοι σήμερα, το λένε Φιδόκαστρο, ήλεγχαν αρχικά την είσοδο του ποταμού Αράχθου. Οι διασωθέντες ασβεστολιθικοί δόμοι καταδεικνύουν την ισόδομη τοιχοποιία που ήταν κοινή στις οχυρώσεις της περιοχής της Ηπείρου.
