Antikythera Shipwreck - Left bronze arm of a boxer statue

Left bronze arm of a boxer statue. Late 2nd-early 1st c. BCE.

Information on the exhibition indicates:
"Larger than life-size. Heavy, tightly crossed thongs, i.e. leather straps, are wrapped around the thumb, wrist and lower forearm for protecting the hand. The arm belonged to a statue of a victorious athlete, perhaps set up in a palaestra or gymnasium."

From the 2013 "Το Ναυάγιο των Αντικυθήρων. Το Πλοίο, οι Θησαυροί, ο Μηχανισμός" (The Antikythera Shipwreck. The Ship, The Treasures, The Mechanism) at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Greece.
