Antikythera Shipwreck – Ship Parts

Lead and Bronze ship parts from Antikythera shipwreck.

Museum information:
“1. The part of the raised lead pipe 2 has been associated with the water drainage pump.
The conical objects with a rounded top 3 have been identified as weights.
The discovery of two sounding weights 4 for measuring depth and ascertaining the nature of the seabed (katapeirateriai) gives some indication of the ship’s size and the voyages on the high seas that it undertook. The bronze rings 5 are associated with the ship’s mast, while the lead weights 6 have been identified as fishnet weights.”
