From the museum card: “A Bronze Apollo: The Chatsworth Head
This rare example of an early Classical, large-scale bronze sculpture probably represents the god Apollo. The head was cast in several pieces, with locks of hair made separately and attached. The eyes were originally inlaid and the eyelashes fixed to the lids. The lips may have been plated with a reddish copper to produce a more realistic appearance. A leg from the same statue is in the Louvre Museum.”
Exhibited at the British Museum, London. UK.
