Archaic Mycenae Metope

Fragments from the Acropolis of Mycenae circa 630 620 BCE. The Daidalic female figure in the middle is pulling her cloak over her head in a gesture of modesty typical of statues depicting Hera in scenes of her marriage to Zeus (Kaltsas, 37). The metope is made in the Cretan -eastern manner. National Museum, Athens.
