Female kore statue holding a dove
Kore of Lyons

Lyons Kore. 550 - 540 BCE

The Kore of Lyon holds a dove with her right hand while her left hand rests on her thigh. She represents the first example of an Attic kore in Ionic costume, namely chiton and slanting himation. Her head is crowned by a polos (hair dress) with painted palmettes and lotus flowers. She is exhibited at the Acropolis museum with the upper part of her body being a plaster cast from the original which is now in Lyons, France.
