Incomplete Kouros with point chisel marks
Incomplete Kouros

Unfinished Kouros statue. Circa 540 BCE.

An excellent example of how the statues were created. The whole surface was worked with a point chisel, pulverizing the rock and finding the figure by holding the chisel perpendicular to the surface.
Found on Naxos island. Exhibited at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Greece.
