"offering tables" (2) incised with signs of Minoan Linear A script. This system, which utilizes a syllabic script, is based on Minoan Hieroglyphic writing. Linear A first ap-pears in the Middle Minoan I-Il period (2160-1700/1650 B.C.) with individual signs on vases, stones or seals, and is organized as a complete system of script by 1700 B.C.
This written language, which is found on clay tablets from the archive of the palatial centres, stone cult vessels, and bronze double axes, has still not been deciphered. Some-time after 1425 B.C. a new script, Linear B, was intro-duced at the palace of Knossos. -- Exhibited in the Agions Nikolaos Archaeological Museum
