Pithamphora with Lily Motif

This large ceramic pithamphora (storage jar) is a significant example of Protopalatial pottery from Quartier M at the Palace of Malia. The vessel features a prominent, stylized lily or floral motif on its main body, executed in light-on-dark paint—a hallmark of the sophisticated "Kamares" influence of this era. The elegant, rounded shape and sturdy handles indicate its dual purpose as a storage container for luxury oils or wine and as a decorative object that signaled the high status of the household within the urban quarter. The survival of such large, reconstructed vessels provides a clear view of the advanced aesthetic and technical capabilities of Malian potters during the period of the First Palaces.
Αυτός ο μεγάλος πήλινος πιθαμφορέας αποτελεί σημαντικό δείγμα πρωτοανακτορικής κεραμικής από τη Συνοικία Μ του Ανακτόρου των Μαλίων. Η διάσωση τέτοιων μεγάλων, ανασυγκροτημένων αγγείων προσφέρει μια σαφή εικόνα της προηγμένης αισθητικής και τεχνικής ικανότητας των αγγειοπλαστών των Μαλίων κατά την περίοδο των Πρώτων Ανακτόρων.
