Kylix and Drinking Service
Milatos, Mirabello
14th–13th Century BCE
A ceramic drinking set from the cemetery at Milatos, dating to 1400–1200 BCE. The central stemmed kylix is decorated with stylized octopus or foliate motifs on the bowl and horizontal bands on the stem. Accompanying it are two small jugs and a two-handled storage jar. These vessels were essential components of funerary banqueting rituals, where the living shared a ceremonial meal with the deceased, reflecting the enduring social traditions of the Minoan elite during the 13th Century BCE.
Κεραμικό σύνολο πόσεως από το νεκροταφείο του Μιλάτου, που χρονολογείται στο 1400–1200 π.Χ. Η κεντρική στελεχωμένη κύλικα κοσμείται με σχηματοποιημένα μοτίβα στον κάλυκα και οριζόντιες ταινίες στο στέλεχος. Συνοδεύεται από δύο μικρές προχοΐδες και ένα δίωτο αποθηκευτικό αγγείο. Τα σκεύη αυτά αποτελούσαν απαραίτητα στοιχεία των ταφικών τελετουργιών, όπου οι ζωντανοί μοιράζονταν ένα τελετουργικό γεύμα με τον νεκρό, αντανακλώντας τις διαχρονικές κοινωνικές παραδόσεις της μινωικής ελίτ κατά τον 13ο αι. π.Χ.
