Terracotta Head of a Female Figure

Terracotta head from a large-scale female figure found in the Late Minoan III cemetery at Kritsa, dating to the 14th–12th Century BCE. The head features prominent, stylized eyes and a sharp, elongated nose, typical of the expressive and somewhat abstract religious art of the Post-palatial era. Such figures were often placed in tombs or small domestic shrines as protective deities or representatives of the deceased.

Πήλινη κεφαλή μεγάλης γυναικείας μορφής από το Υστερομινωικό ΙΙΙ νεκροταφείο της Κριτσάς, που χρονολογείται στον 14ο–12ο αι. π.Χ. Η κεφαλή χαρακτηρίζεται από τα έντονα, σχηματοποιημένα μάτια και την επιμήκη μύτη, στοιχεία τυπικά της εκφραστικής και κάπως αφαιρετικής θρησκευτικής τέχνης της Μετανακτορικής περιόδου. Τέτοιες μορφές τοποθετούνταν συχνά σε τάφους ή μικρά οικιακά ιερά ως προστατευτικές θεότητες ή ομοιώματα των νεκρών.
