An assembly of terracotta votive offerings from a deposit in Sitia, dating to the middle of the 8th–7th Century BCE. The collection features numerous heads and torsos rendered in the Daedalic style, which was the first truly monumental style of Greek sculpture. These figures served as "votives"—sacred gifts to a deity—and their discovery in such large numbers suggests a significant regional sanctuary that thrived during the transition from the Geometric to the Orientalizing period.
Συλλογή πήλινων ταμάτων από αποθέτη της Σητείας, που χρονολογείται στα μέσα του 8ου–7ου αι. π.Χ. Η συλλογή περιλαμβάνει πλήθος κεφαλών και κορμών σε δαιδαλικό ρυθμό, ο οποίος υπήρξε ο πρώτος πραγματικά μνημειακός ρυθμός της ελληνικής γλυπτικής. Τα ειδώλια αυτά χρησίμευαν ως αναθήματα—ιερά δώρα προς μια θεότητα—και η ανακάλυψή τους σε τόσο μεγάλο αριθμό υποδηλώνει την ύπαρξη ενός σημαντικού περιφερειακού ιερού που ήκμασε κατά τη μετάβαση από τη Γεωμετρική στην Ανατολίζουσα περίοδο.
