The scattered architectural remains mark the summit where the Temple of Aphrodite once stood, initially established in the seventh century BCE and rebuilt as a small prostyle temple during the Classical period. Following the destruction of the ancient sanctuary, the site served successively as an Early Christian basilica, a Byzantine watchtower, a mosque, and a Venetian artillery platform, frequently repurposing the flawlessly dressed poros blocks from the original temple.
Excavations in the area have yielded limited small finds, including fibulae, finger-rings, a cross, lead seals, weaponry fragments, and numismatic evidence. Additionally, marble architectural members with sculptural decoration provide evidence for no-longer-extant buildings, some of which are temporarily preserved in the guard-house of the third gate.

Τα διάσπαρτα αρχιτεκτονικά κατάλοιπα σηματοδοτούν την κορυφή όπου δέσποζε κάποτε ο Ναός της Αφροδίτης, ο οποίος ιδρύθηκε αρχικά τον 7ο αιώνα π.Χ. και ανοικοδομήθηκε ως μικρός πρόστυλος ναός κατά την Κλασική περίοδο. Μετά την καταστροφή του αρχαίου ιερού, η τοποθεσία λειτούργησε διαδοχικά ως παλαιοχριστιανική βασιλική, βυζαντινό παρατηρητήριο, τέμενος και ενετική πλατφόρμα πυροβολικού, επαναχρησιμοποιώντας συχνά τους άψογα λαξευμένους πωρόλιθους από τον αρχικό ναό.
Οι ανασκαφές στην περιοχή έχουν αποδώσει περιορισμένα μικρά ευρήματα, όπως περόνες, δαχτυλίδια, έναν σταυρό, μολύβδινες σφραγίδες, τμήματα όπλων και νομισματικά στοιχεία. Επιπλέον, μαρμάρινα αρχιτεκτονικά μέλη με γλυπτό διάκοσμο προσφέρουν στοιχεία για κτίρια που δεν σώζονται πλέον, ορισμένα εκ των οποίων φυλάσσονται προσωρινά στο φυλάκιο της τρίτης πύλης.
