Mycenae underground cistern entry (wall opening on the left of this photo)

The underground cistern allowed the citadel unlimited and secure water supply. The water pool below was supplied through underground pipes from a nearby natural spring. Visible to the right of this photo (the wall opening with the metal gate) is the second wall opening of the Northeast Extension. Mycenae Archaeological site. Peloponnese, Greece.
