Squat Stirrup Jar with Stylized Octopus

A squat ceramic stirrup jar from the Kritsa cemetery, dating to 1400–1100 BCE. The shoulder is decorated with a Marine Style octopus, featuring large circular eyes and tentacles that meander across the upper body of the vessel. The addition of small spiral motifs above the creature's eyes is a charming local variation, reflecting the high degree of individuality in the ceramic production of Eastern Crete during the Post-palatial period.
Πήλινος ψευδόστομος αμφορέας με πεπιεσμένο σφαιρικό σήμα από το νεκροταφείο της Κριτσάς, που χρονολογείται στον 14ο–12ο αι. π.Χ. Ο ώμος του αγγείου κοσμείται με ένα χταπόδι σε Θαλάσσιο Ρυθμό, με μεγάλα κυκλικά μάτια και πλοκάμους που απλώνονται στο πάνω μέρος του σώματος. Η προσθήκη μικρών σπειροειδών μοτίβων πάνω από τα μάτια του θαλάσσιου όντος αποτελεί μια γοητευτική τοπική παραλλαγή, που αντανακλά τον υψηλό βαθμό ατομικότητας στην κεραμική παραγωγή της Ανατολικής Κρήτης κατά τη Μετανακτορική περίοδο.
