Terracotta torso of an under life-size figure from a votive deposit in Sitia, dating to the middle of the 8th–7th Century BCE. The figure is shown wearing a thick, draped garment that crosses the chest, with one hand held close to the body in a gesture of prayer or dedication. Such large-scale terracotta figures were prominent features of the "Daedalic" artistic movement in Crete, serving as permanent representatives of the faithful within the sacred precinct.
Πήλινος κορμός ειδωλίου, λίγο μικρότερη από το φυσικό μέγεθος, από αποθέτη της Σητείας, που χρονολογείται στα μέσα του 8ου–7ου αι. π.Χ. Η μορφή εικονίζεται να φορά παχύ, πτυχωτό ένδυμα που σταυρώνει στο στήθος, με το ένα χέρι κοντά στο σώμα σε χειρονομία δέησης ή αφιέρωσης. Τέτοια μεγάλης κλίμακας πήλινα ειδώλια αποτελούσαν εξέχοντα στοιχεία του «δαιδαλικού» καλλιτεχνικού ρεύματος στην Κρήτη, λειτουργώντας ως μόνιμοι εκπρόσωποι των πιστών μέσα στον ιερό χώρο.
