The East Pediment of the Temple of Aphaia in Aegina. It shows all the characteristics of early Classical sculpture. Circa 480 BCE.
The East Pediment portrays the First Trojan War, centered on Herakles, Laomedon, and Telamon. These compositions may have replaced earlier groups representing the abduction of the Nymph Aegina and an Amazonomachy.
Destined to be in production during the start of the Golden Era, the early statues belong to the Late Archaic period, while the newer sculptures exhibit all the characteristics of the Classical period.
