The Parthenon — East Façade and Pediment (Digital Reconstruction)
Digital photomontage and architectural illustration (2026)
Birth of Athena, Gigantomachy, Athena Parthenos
Acropolis, Athens Original location
447–432 BCE (Classical Period)
Digital architectural reconstruction of the Parthenon's eastern facade presents the Doric octastyle arrangement beneath the sculpted pediment depicting the birth of Athena from the head of Zeus. The structural composition includes the elaborate acroteria, the carved metopes of the Gigantomachy, and the monumental entrance granting a direct line of sight toward the chryselephantine statue of Athena Parthenos.
The reconstruction incorporates original ancient-greece.org photographs of surviving Parthenon sculptures in the British Museum and Acropolis Museum. The hypothetical arrangement of the missing pedimental figures follows a plaster reconstruction based on K. Schwerzek’s 1896 drawing; the acroteria are based on drawings by Anastasios Orlandos, while the central anthemion is reproduced from a photograph of the surviving original in the Acropolis Museum. The architectural elevation, the anthemia and metopes are based on drawings by Anastasios Orlandos, while a photograph of the Varvakeion Athena, a Roman marble copy in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, represents Pheidias's lost chryselephantine statue of Athena Parthenos inside the temple. The view of the cult statue through the entrance is an interpretive reconstruction rather than a verified ancient sightline, while the restrained monochromatic treatment does not attempt to reproduce the temple's original painted decoration.

στα 200 ppi.
