Fragmented Heritage in Modern Arta
Photographed in 2014, these blocks from the Temple of Apollo Pythios appear to be gasping for air amidst the modern sea of cement in Arta. While the primary remains of the Archaic temple are located in an enclosed yard on the opposite side of the block, these specific stones are built into the sidewalk and partially buried beneath modern buildings. The scene serves as a stark testament to the difficulties of archaeological preservation within the dense urban fabric of a commercial center that has continuously evolved for over 2500 years.

Αυτοί οι δόμοι από τον Ναό του Πυθίου Απόλλωνα, όπως φωτογραφήθηκαν το 2014, μοιάζουν να αναζητούν διέξοδο μέσα στο σύγχρονο τσιμέντο της Άρτας. Ενώ τα κύρια ερείπια του Αρχαϊκού ναού βρίσκονται σε περιφραγμένο χώρο στην άλλη πλευρά του οικοδομικού τετραγώνου, αυτά τα συγκεκριμένα τμήματα είναι ενσωματωμένα στο πεζοδρόμιο και βρίσκονται κάτω από σύγχρονα κτίρια. Η εικόνα αποτελεί μαρτυρία των δυσκολιών της αρχαιολογικής ανάδειξης μέσα στον πυκνό αστικό ιστό ενός εμπορικού κέντρου που εξελίσσεται για περισσότερα από 2500 χρόνια.
