These inscribed clay fragments and administrative records display examples of the undeciphered Linear A script alongside an accompanying museum explanatory panel detailing numerical symbols. Discovered at the Kastelli hill in Khania, the site served as a major Minoan center that flourished during the Bronze Age. Various types of records from a Minoan archive; tablets, roundels and sealings.
They were found at Kastelli of Khania, at the town that flourished from approximately 3000 B.C. till 1450 B.C. At some time around 1450 B.C. many sites in Crete were destroyed. These clay records were accidentally preserved in a catastrophic fire, which baked them.
The records are inscribed with linear A, which has not yet been completely deciphered. However, by comparison with the known script Linear B, we may identify pictographs of various plant and animal products. The records indicate an advanced system of economic administration.

Τα εγχάρακτα πήλινα θραύσματα και τα διοικητικά αρχεία παρουσιάζουν δείγματα της αποκρυπτογραφημένης Γραμμικής Α γραφής, συνοδευόμενα από επεξηγηματική πινακίδα μουσείου με αριθμητικά σύμβολα. Τα ευρήματα προέρχονται από τον λόφο Καστέλι στα Χανιά, το οποίο αποτελούσε σημαντικό μινωικό κέντρο που ήκμασε κατά την Εποχή του Χαλκού. Η συλλογή μαρτυρεί την οργανωμένη διοικητική καταγραφή, συμπεριλαμβανομένων αριθμητικών τιμών που συνδέονται με την παλατιανή διοίκηση.
