Grave stele. 350-325 ВСE.

Pentelic marble.
Found in the ancient cemetery of the Kerameikos, Athens.
A nude young man with a chlamys over his left arm stands leaning against a colonnette, holding his head in grief. In the bottom right corner, a young servant sits on the ground asleep, his head resting on his knees.
The aryballos and strigil in his right hand indicate that his master was an athlete. At the left, the dead man's aged father gazes at him in sorrow.
The monument, the representation on which is a repetition of the subject on the Stele of the Ilisos, inv. no. 869, was originally a naiskos with a separately made pediment, pilasters and pedestal.
Exhibited in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Greece.
