Marble group of Aphrodite and Eros. Early 3rd c. BC

From Eretria (it was found in a deposit of sculptures together with other idealistic statuettes of Asklepios, Cybele, Heracles)
A unique subject for free sculpture. It depicts the goddess of love, as she leans forward in order to embrace her winged son, who has just "landed", as indicated by his folded wings on the back and his feet in a light stride--National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Greece.
