The ancient theater of Stratos preserves the quintessential Greek layout, where the unbroken circle of the orchestra hosted the two semicircular sections of the chorus.
The vast majority of Greek theaters were later remodeled by the Romans—who typically sliced the orchestra into a semi-circular D-shape to accommodate a raised, elaborate stage and VIP seating—the theater at Stratos escaped these imperial modifications.
Το αρχαίο θέατρο της Στράτου διατηρεί ακόμη την πεμπτουσία της ελληνικής διάταξης, όπου ο αδιάσπαστος κύκλος της ορχήστρας φιλοξενούσε τα δύο ημικυκλικά τμήματα του χορού.
Η συντριπτική πλειοψηφία των ελληνικών θεάτρων ανακατασκευάστηκε αργότερα από τους Ρωμαίους —οι οποίοι συνήθως μετέτρεπαν την ορχήστρα σε ημικυκλικό σχήμα «D» για να εξυπηρετήσουν ένα υπερυψωμένο σκηνικό οικοδόμημα και καθίσματα για επισήμους.
