Το Ancient-Greece.org αποτελεί ερευνητικό πόρο και φωτογραφικό αρχείο αφιερωμένο στη συστηματική μελέτη της ελληνικής αρχαιότητας, από τη Λίθινη Εποχή έως τη Ρωμαϊκή Αυτοκρατορική Περίοδο.

Μεθοδολογία και Δομή

Το πλαίσιο του έργου καθορίζεται από τη σύνθεση οπτικών, χωρικών και κειμενικών τεκμηρίων:

• Φῶς: Αντιπροσωπεύει την οπτική αποτύπωση και το φωτογραφικό αρχείο.
• Ἴχνος: Υποδηλώνει το φυσικό αποτύπωμα, την κάτοψη ή τον χάρτη που παραμένει στο έδαφος.
• Λόγος: Περιλαμβάνει τον γραπτό λόγο, την αιτία και το επιστημονικό άρθρο που συνθέτει τα δεδομένα.

Μέσα από αυτή την προσέγγιση, ο ιστότοπος αναδεικνύει τα σωζόμενα φυσικά τοπία και τα τεχνουργήματα όπως αυτά παρουσιάζονται σε αρχαιολογικά μουσεία και χώρους. Τα φωτογραφικά τεκμήρια πλαισιώνονται από πρωτότυπα δοκίμια για την παροχή ιστορικού πλαισίου, με στόχο να αποτελέσουν τόσο οπτικό ερέθισμα για το κοινό όσο και χρήσιμη πηγή υλικού για την επιστημονική κοινότητα. Η πλατφόρμα ιδρύθηκε το 2002 και βρίσκεται σήμερα στην τρίτη της έκδοση (2024).

Συντακτικό και Νομικό Πλαίσιο

Το Ancient-Greece.org είναι μια ανεξάρτητη ερευνητική έκδοση που δημιουργήθηκε και δημοσιεύεται από τον Θωμά Σακούλα, καθηγητή και πρώην πρόεδρο του Τμήματος Τεχνών στο State University of New York at Oneonta. Ως δημιουργός του περιεχομένου, επιμελείται όλα τα οπτικά στοιχεία, συμπεριλαμβανομένου του σχεδιασμού ιστοσελίδων, της φωτογραφίας, των γραφικών και των χαρτών, καθώς και των συνοδευτικών κειμένων.

Ancient-Greece.org serves as a research resource and photographic archive dedicated to the systematic study of Greek antiquity from Stone Age to the Roman Imperial Era. These photographic records are paired with original essays to provide historical context, aiming to serve as both a visual resource for the public and a primary source of materials for scholars. Established in 2002, this platform is currently in its third edition (2024).

Ancient-Greece.org is an independent research publication and is not affiliated with any government entity or external website. The project is created and published by Thomas Sakoulas, Professor and former Chair of the Art Department at the State University of New York at Oneonta. As the author of the site’s content, he oversees all visual elements, including web design, photography, graphics, and maps, as well as the accompanying scholarly text.

Copyright and Creative Commons Licensing

The publication is available free of charge for personal and educational use.

While all rights are reserved, specific digital assets are available under a Creative Commons framework to facilitate academic exchange.

High-Resolution PDF Maps

The maps are designed for digital viewing, but they do print well in poster-size dimensions and quality appropriate for wall-hanging as wall maps.

High-fidelity PDF maps are provided exclusively for personal and physical classroom use. These files are password-protected to prevent unauthorized digital editing or data extraction, though this does not interfere with printing. While printing for individual or educational wall-hanging is encouraged, the digital PDF files may not be redistributed, modified, or hosted on other platforms.
