A fragment of a terracotta plaque from the sanctuary of Hermes and Aphrodite at Syme (Kato Symi), dating to the Archaic period (7th–6th Century BCE). The relief depicts a griffin—a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle—reflecting the strong "Orientalizing" influence on Cretan art during this era.

Τμήμα πήλινου πλακιδίου από το ιερό του Ερμή και της Αφροδίτης στη Σύμη (Κάτω Σύμη), που χρονολογείται στην Αρχαϊκή περίοδο (7ος–6ος αι. π.Χ.). Η ανάγλυφη παράσταση απεικονίζει έναν γρύπα —ένα μυθικό ον με σώμα λιονταριού και κεφάλι και φτερά αετού— αντανακλώντας τις έντονες ανατολίζουσες επιδράσεις στην κρητική τέχνη αυτής της εποχής.
