The Gorgo pediment from the temple of Artemis. 590 – 580 BCE.
The pediment sculptures depict the myth of Gorgo (Medusa) giving birth at the moment she was beheaded by Perseus. She birthed the winged horse Pegasus and the young Chrysaor. In the pediment, Gorgo and her children appear as a family portrait, alive with her children, flanked by two feline animals.
On the right the pediment appear scenes from the Titanomachy, and on the left battle scenes from either the Titanomachy or the conquest of Troy.
Exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of Corfu, Greece.
