Daedalic kore Nikandre

Kore Nikandre (front). Circa 650 BCE.

Daedalic kore statue from the sanctuary of Artemis in Delos. One of the earliest examples of monumental stone statues. The inscription carved on her left thigh indicates that it was dedicated to Apollo by the Naxian Nikandre. One of the characteristics of this Kore is the flatness of the frontal and back view, and the shallowness of the body. 1.80m tall.
