Xystis

Xystis in Ancient Greece was the long chiton that the chariot racers wore during the race. It was a garment that covered the entire body, and was fastened at the waist with a simple belt. Two straps crossed high at the athlete’s back, preventing the fabric from “ballooning” with air and riding up his neck during the race.
