Chaonia | Χαονία

Chaonia was the northwesternmost region of ancient Epiros, inhabited by the Chaonians, one of the three principal Greek tribes of the area alongside the Molossians and Thesprotians. Stretching from the Keraunian Mountains in the north to the river Thyamis in the south, the territory encompassed parts of modern northwestern Greece and southern Albania. The region is notable for its monumental Hellenistic civic architecture, tribal political leagues, and major archaeological sites, including the inland capital of Phoinike and the strategic maritime center of Bouthroton.
